With declining financial backing, city libraries require extra money now than in the past. One of the great non profit people can help with is your local Friends of the Library Chapter. This Organization helps raise money for the library and donate free time to try to make the local library a better place.
one of the ways the Friends of the Library raise funds is by coordinating book sales. These used book sale events are not only excellent ways to find deals on used books and media items, such as CD’s and DVD’s, these media sales are also good ways to aid the local library.
If you have unwanted books or media items, you can donate the media items to the local library. Contact your local library on what donations they are looking for or what their rules are for donations. A couple of these used media items that are donated may even go into the cities library catalog.
If you don’t have books and media items to donate, you can always donate your time. These Used Book Sale fundraisers require many volunteer hours to make them successful. Contact your local friends of the library chapter and ask what they may could use help with. The Friends of the Library will often require volunteers to help organize books for sale. Also the Friends of the Library will need volunteers to help in running the sale and help with clean up.
Volunteering for these book sales can sometimes be a family event with teenage children. It can aid in building their resume to use when applying to a job by volunteering hours at their library. Also, having more energetic volunteers can aid with the manual work load of packing the books for the used book sale.
If media sales are not something you want to volunteer for, don’t be disheartened. Friends of the Library also have some other fundraising events. They will sometimes host dinners, book signing events and on occasion operate a ongoing book sale. Call them to get further information on what in particular your library has scheduled.
